What it is about

Brené Brown's research team asked thousands of People to name the emotions they could recognize in themselves as they were feeling them. The average answer was three: happy, sad, angry. Atlas of the Heart is her response, a map of eighty-seven distinct emotions and experiences, drawn from over two decades of research, each one defined precisely enough that you can finally find yourself on the map.

The distinctions do real work. Envy and jealousy are different problems with different solutions. Shame and guilt drive completely different behavior. Overwhelm and stress need different responses. Brown walks through each cluster with research, stories and a plain-spoken honesty about her own worst moments.

The premise underneath it all is one Clinicians have worked with for a long time: naming an emotion accurately is often the first step to working with it. This book gives you the vocabulary, one emotion at a time.
